The process of a TDD typically consists of five phases: (1) definition of the relevant technical investigations, (2) formation of a DD team, (3) examination and analysis of the due diligence data-room, (4) inspections of the facility/supplier and (5) identification and evaluation of technical risks / deal breakers.

However, in the case of a TDD, it must always be ensured that the information, analyzes and findings obtained are actually relevant to the client and its target. The TDD must therefore be individually tailored to each project to be evaluated and ultimately lead to a successful transaction.

K&S standardized energy storage TDD process for the identification of technical risks helps to reduce costs by identifying risks on particularly critical components or contracts in good time. In addition, the experienced K&S auditors analyze possible potentials for increasing long-term profitability. A top-level checklist provides a comprehensive overview of the main aspects of technical due diligence.

For this purpose, the used components like energy storage devises/inverters etc., key supplier contracts, building permit, yield assessment, O&M contracts are reviewed in detail to identify possible deal breakers. For a detailed yield estimation for the lifetime of the energy storage system K&S has developed a unique real-time simulation approach. Because of high degree of complexity of the realtime approach more then 31 Million seconds per year have to be implemented in the simulation algorithm. Based on the project specific boundaries the type of Inverter, battery and grid limitations for every single time step have to be simulated. This uniques simulation approach deliver the possibility to determine continuously loss factor calculation. The company owned software approach include an a multi-core and multi-engine software architecture for fast results in the due diligence process.

Several projects with more than 20 MWh of installed energy storage capacity and with special requirements of the local utility have already been modeled, real-time optimized and technically rated by the K&S experts in the standardized Due Diligence process.

K&S Ingenieurpartnerschaft Krug and Schram is represented worldwide with TDD projects in the field of renewable energies and offers reliable technical advice from the due diligence, project supervision and the final technical inspection.
